EECurrent · Last updated 31 August 2026

EECurrent is a news reader for electrical engineers. It is designed so that most of what you do in it never leaves your phone.

We do not ask for your name, phone number, or address. We do not sell or share your data with advertisers. There is no advertising or third-party analytics SDK in the app.

1. What stays on your device only

The following never reaches our servers. It lives in the app's private storage and is deleted when you uninstall the app:

DataWhy it stays local
Saved stories, events and job postingsYour reading list is yours.
Notes you write on a saved itemThese are your own words. They are never transmitted, and no server-side record contains their text.
Which stories you have read or dismissedOnly used to avoid showing you the same thing twice.

Because these are local, we cannot recover them for you if you lose the device. The app's Export button hands the list to your phone's share sheet so you can keep a copy somewhere you already trust.

2. What we store on our servers

When you first open the app it creates an anonymous account. This is a random identifier. It is not linked to your name, email, phone number or device advertising ID.

DataPurpose
Anonymous account identifierTo keep your settings attached to you across app restarts.
Notification tokenTo deliver push notifications. Issued by Expo/Google, not by us.
Topics you selectedTo decide which stories you are sent.
Keywords you added or excludedTo match stories you asked for. Never copied into any analytics record.
Job function and industryTo rank stories, and to group interest in conferences.
Quiet hours and time zoneTo send notifications silently at night.
Job filtersSo the Jobs tab looks the same on another device you sign in on.
Which stories you opened, dismissed, marked irrelevant or saved, and how long you lookedTo measure which topic rules are working. Recorded against your anonymous identifier.
Which conferences you opened, with the job function and industry you had set at the timeTo learn which events matter to which kind of engineer.
Anything you type into the Feedback boxTo read and act on it. This box is the one place we expect prose from you.

We do not collect: location, contacts, photos, files, microphone, camera, installed apps, advertising identifiers, or device fingerprints. The app requests no runtime permission other than notifications.

3. Signing in with Google (optional)

Signing in is optional, and the app works fully without it. Its only purpose is to let you carry your settings to another device.

If you do sign in, our authentication provider stores your email address and links it to the anonymous account you already had. We use it to recognise you when you sign in again. It is never shown to other users and never used for marketing — we do not send email at all.

Signing out detaches the device and returns it to a fresh anonymous account.

4. Who processes data for us

ServiceRole
SupabaseDatabase and authentication hosting.
Expo & Google Firebase Cloud MessagingDelivery of push notifications.
GitHub ActionsRuns the scheduled collection jobs. Handles no personal data.

We do not use advertising networks, attribution SDKs, or third-party analytics products such as Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics.

5. Links out of the app

Headlines, conferences and job postings open the original publisher's, organiser's or employer's own page. Those sites are not ours and have their own privacy practices. We do not tell them who you are.

6. How long we keep things

DataRetention
Your settingsUntil you delete your account or uninstall and stop using the app.
Reading and conference-click recordsKept while they are useful for tuning the product.
Feedback messagesKept until acted on.

7. Deleting your data

You can request deletion of everything associated with your account by emailing privacy@eecurrent.com. Tell us the email address you signed in with, or — if you never signed in — send the request from the app's Feedback box so we can identify the anonymous account. We will delete the account and its associated records.

Uninstalling the app removes everything held on the device, including your notes, immediately and permanently.

8. Children

EECurrent is a professional tool for working engineers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them.

9. Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes.
